Prestidigitation – Erik Griswold & Adam Simmons
This is a concert not to miss!
Adam Simmons, eclectic Melbourne composer-improvisor performs frequently as a soloist and with his many groups, including Origami and The Adam Simmons Toy Band. Bridging the gaps between jazz, experimental, and world music styles, Simmons is “a player with an astonishing dynamic and tonal range.” (The Age). A virtuoso player of so many instruments including Tenor, Soprano, Sopranino, Alto, Baritone, and Bass Saxophones; Flute, Piccolo, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, and Shakuhachi! (Merle says!)
Keyboardist Erik Griswold uses prepared piano, toy pianos, melodicas, miniature music boxes and objects to create “an enchanting world of miniature keyboards, wit, whimsy and unexpected beauty” (The Age). As co-director of Clocked Out (with Vanessa Tomlinson), he has toured his music around the world, to the U.S., China, Japan, Korea, and Europe, collaborating with creative musicians such as Margaret Leng Tan, Steven Schick, Richard Nunns,
In their first duo collaboration, Adam and Erik pool their collections of toys, keyboards, found objects, reeds, flutes, in a kaleidoscopic exploration of musical colourful sound.
