Soon after I started working at Horsham Regional Art Gallery I heard about the Murtoa Stick Shed, and before long joined the “Save the Stick Shed” committee.
It is, I think, one of the wonders of the world – not just Autralia. A totally beautiful, enormous, rustic shed with an ambience not unlike Chartres Cathedral, and much bigger even than St Peters, Rome! Sadly it continued to be allowed to fall apart, until recently. I’ve not seen it since the recent work done on it. I gather there have been compromises – using metal rather than wood apparently. If you are near Murtoa, detour to see it, but you need access to the interior – from the outside not impressive.
